Peanut Butter as a Meat Substitute? BonusVegan Judith Explains
We often get asked: Is your peanut butter vegan? The answer is yes: 7 of our 10 flavors are completely plant-based! But what does being vegan really mean, and how does peanut butter fit into a vegan lifestyle? We caught up with Judith, also known as BonusVegan, to find out.
“Are you vegan?” – “No, I’m Judith”
If Judith had to describe herself in three words, she’d go with fair, enthusiastic, and animal lover. That last one won’t surprise anyone. Online, she’s better known as the BonusVegan.
Through her website and Instagram, she shows just how easy (and tasty) eating plant-based can be. She shares supermarket finds, recipes, and answers to common vegan questions. Her biggest inspiration? Anyone helping to make the world a better place, whether that’s supermarkets offering more vegan options or brands like ours using plant-based proteins in products like our Sport peanut butter.
Vegan Shopping Made Simple
Finding plant-based products at the supermarket is getting easier every day. Look for the V-label on packaging or check for green price tags. Still not sure? Try the Is it vegan app: just scan a barcode to see if a product is plant-based.
That said, not all meat substitutes are equally healthy. Some processed options have low nutritional value, which means your body doesn’t get much from them. That’s why Judith recommends going for whole, natural products like hummus, tofu, or peanut butter. These are rich in vitamins, minerals, and protein.
One thing to keep in mind: vitamin B12 is only found in animal products. If you're fully plant-based, it's important to take a B12 supplement.
A Tip for Everyone — Vegan or Not
Judith’s mission is to inspire — whether you’re fully vegan or just curious about eating more plant-based. Her advice? Start small. Try swapping just one ingredient in your usual meals or look for a plant-based version of something you’ve just run out of.
And most importantly: it’s okay to mess up. Nobody is a perfect vegan, and that’s completely fine.
Judith’s Guilty Pleasure?
She loves starting the day with a banana, peanut butter, and cocoa smoothie — healthy and delicious. But a glass of wine with paprika-flavored chips? That’s her kind of balance.
