How to Store Peanut Butter
So, how should you store peanut butter? Let’s break it down for you!
Peanut butter tastes best within 4 months of purchase. After that, the flavor starts to gradually fade. During this time, you don’t need to worry about special storage conditions. In our house, the jar usually doesn’t last that long, so it’s rarely a problem 😋🥜
Most supermarket peanut butters are stabilized, which makes them less natural, but the advantage is that you don’t have to store them in any special way.
We make our peanut butter ourselves, without adding palm oil or stabilizers! Because of this, you might notice an oily layer forming on top over time. This is a natural process, and it doesn’t affect the safety or shelf life of the peanut butter. However, it can make the peanut butter a bit firmer.
To prevent it from getting too hard, here’s what you can do:
-
Refrigerate the peanut butter: Only do this if you plan to store it for more than 4 months. Peanut butter is much tastier when not chilled.
-
Flip the jar upside down: A classic trick from grandma’s time! Let it sit like this for a few weeks so the oil can move back to the top, making the bottom of the jar less dry. Pretty clever, right?!
